Upward‐Doming Zones of Gas Hydrate and Free Gas at the Bases of Gas Chimneys, New Zealand's Hikurangi Margin

چکیده

Focused gas migration through the hydrate stability zone in vertical conduits is a global phenomenon. The process can lead to concentrated formation and seafloor seepage, which influences biodiversity ocean biogeochemistry. However, much unknown about how co-exist within around conduits. We present seismic imaging of system beneath four-way closure anticlinal ridge at New Zealand's southern Hikurangi subduction margin. Gas has accumulated base thickness up ∼240 m, ultimately led hydraulic fracturing propagation conduit seafloor. Despite existence an array normal faults ridge, these structures are not exploited as long-range flow Directly conduit, extending upward from regional stability, broad characterized by both negative- positive-polarity reflections. interpret this volume sediment hosting free gas, that developed due partial trapping mass transport deposit. Similar highly reflective zones have been identified bases other conduits, but they intrinsic all systems. suggest pronounced intervening sealing units determine whether or form.

Methane seepage and its relation to slumping and gas hydrate at the Hikurangi margin, New Zealand

Dissolved methane and high resolution bathymetry surveys were conducted over the Rock Garden region of Ritchie Ridge, along the Hikurangi margin, eastern New Zealand. Multibeam bathymetry reveals two prominent, northeast trending ridges, parallel to subduction along the margin, that are steep sided and extensively slumped. Elevated concentrations of methane (up to 10 nM, 10× background) within ...

consequence analysis of the leakage, ignition and explosion during high pressure sour gas injection process to the oil reservoir

there is no doubt that human being needs to become integrated with industry and industry needs to be progressed, daily. on the other hand, serious events in industrial units specially in oil industries has been shown that such damages and events are industry related ones. the consequence of such events and damages which resulted in chemical and poisoned explosions and loss of life and property ...

Measurement of Mass Transfer Coefficients of Natural Gas Mixture during Gas Hydrate Formation

In this study, mass transfer coefficients (MTC’s) of natural gas components during hydrate formation are reported. This work is based on the assumption that the transport of gas molecules from gas phase to aqueous phase is dominant among other resistances. Several experiments were conducted on a mixture of natural gas at different pressures and temperatures and the consumed gas was monitored an...

Formation Kinetics of Structure H Gas Hydrate

This paper investigates the kinetics of structure H (sH) formation kinetics above and below the structure I (sI) formation equilibrium curve at temperatures of between 2°C and 6°C. Methane was used as a help gas and methylcyclohexane (MCH) was used as sH former. It was concluded that in the points above the sI formation equilibrium curve, at the first, the sI forms, and then converts to sH be...
